Starting the Sewing:
I left my hand painted silk in the hands of my dressmaker Svetlana Khmelevskaya from 1st Lady Dressmaking. Here she is in her studio, cutting out the coat pieces. She pinned the pattern pieces to the silk before cutting them out. I’d be happy too with all that light coming through the window and her big cutting table!
The individual coat pieces are tacked together and lightly pressed, ready for the next fitting with the client. It’s important not to press the fabric too much at this stage because it can permanently crease and the fit may still need to be adjusted.
Here I am with Svetlana, checking up on the progress. So far, so good! The coat is looking fabulous with the pink dress underneath!
The Fitting with the Client:
The bespoke dress coat is fitted along with the pink dress that will be worn underneath. Adjustments are made to the sleeves and the neckline.
This is what the back of the coat looks like so far:
It’s a perfect fit! Svetlana has done a great job with the sewing as always. The next step is to add the lining and finish sewing the coat. When Svetlana is done I’ll take the coat back to add the final embellishments! (Did anyone say sparkles?!) :)
